Harvest & Vase Life
Dahlias open very little after being cut, so harvesting at the right stage is important. Cut blooms when they are about three-quarters open, before they become overly mature.
Check the back of the flower head — petals should feel firm and hydrated, not papery or dry.
After harvesting, place stems directly into water with floral hydrator. Another method is to sear the stem ends by dipping them in hot water (around 160–180°F, just below boiling) and allowing them to cool in the water for about an hour.
With proper care, blooms typically have a vase life of around 5 days.
