Harvest & Vase Life
Dahlias do not continue opening much after they are cut, so timing your harvest correctly is important. Pick blooms when they are about three-quarters open, but before they become overly mature.
Check the back of the bloom to ensure the petals feel firm and fresh, rather than papery or dry.
After cutting, place stems directly into water with floral hydrator. You can also sear the stem ends by dipping them in hot water (around 160–180°F, just below boiling) and letting them cool in the water for about an hour.
With proper care, blooms typically have a vase life of about 5 days.
