Harvest & Vase Life
Dahlias open very little after being cut, so proper harvest timing is important. Pick blooms when they are about three-quarters open, but before they become overly mature.
To check readiness, look at the back of the flower head — the petals should feel firm and fresh, not papery or dry.
After cutting, place stems immediately into water with floral hydrator. Another option is to sear the stem ends by placing them in hot water (about 160–180°F, just below boiling) and allowing them to cool in the water for about an hour.
With proper handling, expect a vase life of around 5 days.
